Cupecoy- The penthouse overlooks this beach, with easy assess to surf and sand. The cliffs at Cupecoy are beautiful and Cupecoy is known as the best spot on the island to see the “green flash.” Part of this never crowded beach is clothing optional.
Baie Longue- On the French side, just up from our resort is a very quiet beach with the famous resort La Samanna at the base of the beach.
Baie Rouge- We highly recommend this beach on the French side, with its view to the north of the English coral island of Anguilla. Baie Rouge has two beach side food shacks, and Chez Raymond is our recommendation both in the food and drink offerings.
Pinel Island- Just a short hop by a motorized rowboat from Cul de Sac on the French side beyond the village of Grand Case, Pinel has good snorkeling and tanning, along with a great snack shack that prepares Spiny Lobster on the grill. There are no residents on this small patch of land, just day-trippers.
Baie Orient- Orient Bay is probably the most famous beach in the Caribbean with its naturalist community. A popular stop for the ‘boat’ people, it is on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island, but has a coral reef that makes for a very calm and stunningly beautiful setting. In recent years there have been many additions in the bars and food choices along with water sports, including those being parasailing. If you have teens, this is a must. Just take a left at Pedros and you will avoid the nudity.
Dawn Beach- A truly beautiful beach on the Dutch side with a spectacular view of the island of Saint Barths, Dawn Beach offers some of the best body surfing on the island. Although there is now a Westin Hotel on a portion of the beachfront, all beaches on both the French and Dutch sides of the island are public.
Maho Beach- Not far from our resort, this small beach is very famous for the chance of standing near the end of the runway, where the 747s and Airbuses seem to be no more than 40 to 50 feet above you. SSBB (Sunset Beach Bar) is on Maho Beach, and the staff post the daily landing schedules for most of the major flights from the US and Europe.
Mullet Beach- This Dutch beach can be seen from the penthouse, and offers a calm bay, soft white sand and a good snack shack with excellent drinks. This is a good beach to take young children to, as most of the time the Caribbean is very calm there.
Upper Shoal Bay- This is in Anguilla, and is one of National Geographic’s top twelve beaches in the world. The sand on the island is crushed coral with a pale pink hue to it. This is another fine snorkeling spot. And, for a good lunch, Uncle Ernie’s Rib Shack is still the best, but not as good as we remember it from the ‘80s.
